Double Face_1

The “double face” concept in Japan reflects the cultural norm of presenting two personas: tatemae (public facade) and honor (true feelings). Tatemae aligns with societal expectations, emphasizing harmony and politeness, while honoree presents one’s genuine thoughts and emotions, often reserved for close relationships. This duality helps maintain social balance in Japan’s group-oriented culture.

I have explored the concept of “double face” by painting a single figure with two contrasting faces. This artistic approach allows me to capture the duality of public and private personas while transforming the idea into something visually striking and harmonious. Through this work, I aim to elevate the notion of “double face” into a beautiful and thought-provoking expression that complements the theme with depth and elegance.
